How do I add or remove a joint account holder to my Everyday Extra account?

  • Don't have an Everyday Extra account? If you are looking to add or remove someone from a different current account, please visit this page instead.

  • Add someone to your account

You can add an account holder to your Everyday Extra account by printing and returning the PDF form below.

Adding someone to your account gives them the ability to manage the account, deposit money, set up payments and withdraw cash.

It is important to think carefully before entering into a joint account with someone, as you will both be liable for any debt on the account. This means that if you have an existing overdraft, or are looking to apply for one in the future, each account holder is responsible for the repayment of the balance and not just half of it.

If you have more questions about joint accounts you can find more information here (including how it can impact your credit score).

Before you begin

Make sure the person you are adding to your Everyday Extra account meets the following eligibility:

  • is between 18 and 79 years old

  • meets the UK residency eligibility criteria for the insurance benefits (which excludes the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man)

  • is registered with a UK medical practitioner for the travel insurance benefits

  • is not currently 2 or more payments in arrears on any credit agreement

  • has not been declared bankrupt in the last 6 years

  • does not have any County Court Judgments (CCJs) or defaulted on any credit agreement in the last 2 years

  • does not have an existing Everyday Extra, Privilege Premier, Privilege, smilemore or Credit Card Plus account with The Co-operative Bank

  • does not have an account with another provider which includes similar benefits (like travel insurance, motor breakdown cover and mobile phone insurance)

  • does not have an equivalent standalone travel insurance, motor breakdown cover and mobile phone insurance in place. Where you do have existing cover, please ensure you review any current policies and are happy to proceed

You must also make sure that both you and the person you are adding to your account have read and saved for future reference:

  • the important documents
  • the 'Overdraft Pre-contract Information' PDF document, if applicable.

Things to consider:

  • The monthly fee for this account is £18. This fee does not change when you add or remove an account holder.

  • Each account holder will need to meet the eligibility criteria for each insurance policy to be able to access the Everyday Extra account's benefits. Based on each account holder's medical questionnaire results, an additional premium may apply for travel insurance.

  • If you do not wish to pay a subscription fee, a non-fee paying current account is also available.

  • Depending on your individual circumstances, it may be better value for money to purchase the insurance benefits separately from another provider.

To continue, confirm that you:

Please ensure both the existing account holder and the person being added to the account are eligible, have read and agreed to the important documents and overdraft information (where the account has an arranged overdraft facility).

Thank you. You are now ready to begin.
