DEC Myanmar Earthquake Appeal

A powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake has devastated huge areas of Myanmar.

Thousands have been confirmed dead and the death toll continues to rise. Hundreds of people are missing. Many more have no access to the safe shelter, clean water, food and medical care they need to survive. Our partner, the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), has launched an urgent fundraising appeal to support those affected.

As a core member of the DEC’s Rapid Response Network, The Co-operative Bank are supporting the appeal, aiming to help raise funds through our JustGiving page. The Co-operative Bank will donate an initial £10,000 to the appeal.

Myanmar was already facing a severe humanitarian crisis. A third of the population, almost 20 million people, were already in need of humanitarian aid before the earthquake. Now the situation is catastrophic.

DEC charities are already on the ground in affected communities and are working hard to access remote areas. They urgently need more funds to scale up their work and reach the most vulnerable.
