Summary

With a credit card you decide how much you repay (subject to minimum payment).

If you only pay the minimum balance each month, it’ll take longer and cost more to clear your debt. Paying back more than the minimum, without over-stretching yourself financially, means you’ll clear your balance quicker and pay back less interest.

To avoid unexpected charges and fees, set up a Direct Debit to pay your bill each month.

The best way to avoid fees and charges is to make sure you pay off your credit card each month:

  • Make sure your payments reach your account on time.
  • Set up a Direct Debit to pay the full balance or minimum amount due every month, then there are no worries about forgetting dates.
  • Keep track of your credit card spending to make sure you don't go over your agreed credit limit.
