Cheques paid into a Britannia account

If you're paying a cheque into your Britannia account, your passbook will be updated once the cheque has cleared and credited your account.

To update your passbook you can either send your passbook to us, go into a branch, or wait until your next transaction when your passbook will be updated.

Once your cheque has credited your account

You'll start to earn interest or interest charges will start to reduce on your overdraft if applicable.

If a cheque you deposit isn't paid

A credit won't appear on your account and a letter will be sent to notify you of this.

Useful tips for cheque clearing

If you need to cancel a cheque tell us as soon as possible. If the cheque you've written has already been paid in, and is showing as a debit on your account, we won't be able to stop it.

Occasionally there are circumstances beyond our control where the credited cheque may be delayed.

When paying in cheques at the Post Office® or posting cheques to us, please make sure you enclose a paying-in slip to avoid any delays in processing.
