All customers using an Apple device should make sure that their iPhones and iPads are updated to the latest version of the iOS operating system, and their Macs are updated to the latest macOS system, immediately— in order to receive a critical security update.

Apple have recently published updates to their iOS 15, iPadOS 15, iOS 16 and iPadOS 16 operating systems. The update is highly recommended, due to the potential for cyber criminals to take advantage of security vulnerabilities which are currently present in older versions of iOS operating systems. The update you require will depend on the device model you have.

According to the Apple website:

  • iOS 16.1 / iPadOS 16 is available for: iPhone 8 and later, iPad Pro (all models), iPad Air 3rd generation and later, iPad 5th generation and later, iPad mini 5th generation and later
  • iOS 15.7.1 / iPadOS 15.7.1 is available for: iPhone 6s and later, iPad Pro (all models), iPad Air 2 and later, iPad 5th generation and later, iPad mini 4 and later, and iPod touch (7th generation).

How do I update my device?

To install this security update:

  1. Open the ‘Settings’ app
  2. Select ‘General’, then ‘Software Updates’
  3. Select to update to the latest version.

The latest version of iOS is 16.1 or 15.7.1 (dependent on the device model), iPadOS is 16, and macOS is 13.
