What is HID Approve?

This digital solution provides security and authentication for banking online. It is an alternative to using the physical plastic security token. And, best yet, it’s free, easy and available wherever you are.

This app allows you to:

  • Authorise payments made online
  • Verify yourself for secure log in to online banking
  • Bank and shop online, wherever you are

How to get started

Firstly, download

For maximum security, you will require a minimum operating system of iOS 10 or Android version 5 to install and use the app. If you have a previous operating system you should update this. Should you be unable to do this, please contact us for guidance.

Alternatively, you can visit the Apple app store and search ‘HID Approve’.

Secondly, set up HID Approve

You need to download the HID Approve mobile app before you can activate it.

Step 1

In online banking, select ‘New user registration.’ Then, enter your customer ID and user ID that we gave to you when you registered for online banking.

Step 2

Select ‘Request an OTP now.’ We will send a One Time Passcode (OTP) to your registered email address and mobile number.

Step 3

Enter the OTP from your email address into online banking and select ‘Continue.’ Then, enter the OTP from your mobile number and select ‘Continue.’

Step 4

Open the app and tap the screen to register a new service.

Step 5

In the app, scan the QR code shown in online banking.

Alternatively, select ‘enter invite manually’ to enter your user ID, invite code and service URL manually. You can find these details by selecting ‘view manual entry details’ in online banking. Then, select ‘Validate’ in the app.

Step 6

In the app, create a PIN and a friendly name for the service. Then, tap the screen and enter the PIN you just created to generate a secure code.

Step 7

In online banking, select ‘Continue.’ Then, enter the secure code shown in the app and select ‘Continue’ to test that your app is working correctly.

You have successfully activated your HID Approve app.

Frequently asked questions

Please call Business Account Support on 03457 213 213 if you think:

  • your HID Approve app has been compromised
  • there is an issue with your account security
  • it is showing in your online banking, but you have not set it up

If you are having a problem with scanning the QR code as part of the registration process, you can do this step manually.

Click 'view manual entry details' and follow the instructions that appear on the screen.

Troubleshooting

If you are experiencing any of the issues below, please follow the guidance in the dropdown box below that is relevant to your situation. If you:

  • have forgotten or need to change your PIN
  • change your phone or phone number
  • change devices from phone to tablet or vice versa
  • have an HID Approve account showing as ‘pending’ in online banking
  • no longer wish to use HID.

We will need to remove the app from your online banking account.

Then, you will need to reactivate the app if you want to continue using it. Information on how to get started can be found here.

In the future, you can set up fingerprint or facial recognition if your device is compatible.

You will need to remove the app from your online banking account.

In your online banking account ‘Shortcuts’ section, select:

  1. ‘Manage token’
  2. Then ‘Manage security devices’
  3. ‘Actions’
  4. ‘View details’
  5. ‘Remove device'

After this you will need to reactivate the app if you want to continue using it. Information on how to get started can be found here.

In the future, you can set up fingerprint or facial recognition if your device is compatible.
