What is HID Approve?

The HID Approve app provides security and authentication for banking online.

It’s an alternative to using the physical plastic security token. It’s free, easy to use and available wherever you are.

How to set up HID Approve

Firstly, download the app

Scan the QR code to download the app from The App Store

Apple devices

Alternatively, you can visit the Apple app store and search ‘HID Approve’.

For maximum security, you will require a minimum operating system of iOS 10 or Android version 5 to install and use the app. If you have a previous operating system you should update this. If you are unable to do this, contact us.

Secondly, follow the set up steps

You will need Business Online Banking and the HID Approve app to register your app.

Step 1 – New user registration

Go to Business Online Banking and select ‘New user registration.’

Enter your customer ID and user ID (provided when you registered for online banking).

Step 2 – Request one time passcodes

Select ‘Request an OTP now.’ We’ll send you two one time passcodes (OTPs):

  • one to your registered email address
  • one to your mobile number

You will need both passcodes to continue.

Step 3 – Enter both passcodes

Enter the passcode from your email into online banking and select ‘Continue.’

Then, enter the passcode from your mobile and select ‘Continue’ again.

Step 4 – Tap the screen to register

Open the HID Approve app and tap the screen to register a new service.

Step 5 – Scan the QR code

In the app, scan the QR code shown in online banking.

Alternatively, select ‘enter invite manually’ to enter your user ID, invite code and service URL manually. You can find these details by selecting ‘view manual entry details’ in online banking. Then, select ‘Validate’ in the app.

Step 6 – Create your PIN

In the app, create a PIN and a friendly name for the service.

Important: You’ll need to use your PIN straight away in the next step – keep the app open.

Step 7 – Use your PIN to generate a secure code

Still in the app, tap the screen and enter the PIN you just created to generate a secure code.

Then go back to online banking, select ‘Continue’, and enter the secure code from the app. Select ‘Continue’ again to confirm.

Step 8 – Success

You have successfully registered your HID Approve app.

You can now log in to in to online banking securely.

  • carefully follow each step of our HID approve set up guidance
  • check that you have entered both the one time passcode from your email, and from your mobile
  • after creating your PIN make sure you re-enter it to generate a secure code

  • your HID Approve app has been compromised
  • there is an issue with your account security
  • it is showing in your online banking, but you have not set it up

If you are having a problem with scanning the QR code as part of the registration process, you can do this step manually.

Select 'view manual entry details' and follow the instructions that appear on the screen.

Further troubleshooting

If you need any other help, we’ll need to remove the app from your online banking account.

This includes if you:

  • forgot your PIN or want to change it
  • changed your phone or phone number
  • switched from phone to tablet (or vice versa)
  • see an HID Approve account showing in online banking as ‘pending’
  • no longer wish to use HID Approve

Once the app is removed, you’ll need to reactivate it to continue using HID Approve. Follow the steps to set up HID Approve
