The Business Directplus current account is a simple and convenient way to manage your business finances.

With a Business Directplus account, you can take advantage of:

  • Easy switching of your Direct Debits and standing orders through our Current Account Switching Service.
  • Free banking for 18 months for new Co-operative Bank customers.

With this account, free banking means:

  • No monthly service charge
  • All automated credits and debits including standing orders, Direct Debit and Faster Payments are FREE
  • All Business debit card transactions are FREE

    Purchases made in a currency other than sterling are subject to a foreign currency commission charge of 2.75%. Cash advances are subject to a 2% handling charge which may additionally apply if drawn in a currency other than sterling.

  • You can write up to 30 cheques per month for FREE.
  • The 18 months free banking offer is only available to new Co-operative Bank customers, based on maintaining a credit balance of £1000 or more, depositing up to 100 cheques and £2000 cash, and writing up to 30 cheques a month free of charge per month. Charges apply for exceeding the limits specified above, and for any special services used, including stopping cheques, CHAPS payments, etc. Please refer to the tariff for full details.

At the end of the 18 month free banking period, you’ll be automatically transferred onto our standard Business Directplus tariff. This tariff aims to deliver a great service at a very competitive price. For a £5 monthly charge you’ll still be able to:

  • Deposit up to £2,000 in cash and up to 100 cheques per month, plus receive unlimited automated credits into your account. This is dependent on maintaining a credit balance of £1000 or more.
  • Manage your money using online, telephone and postal banking. Plus the freedom to use our network of Co-operative Bank branches and the Post Office®.
  • Access an overdraft facility and other lending options (subject to application, status and our lending policy).

What you'll need to open an account

Participating providers of UK business bank accounts have agreed to a basic set of information that they will need from you to set up your UK business current account. To apply, you and the key parties need to be:

  • Aged 18 or over
  • Free from County Court Judgements (CCJs), bankruptcy and IVAs over the last 6 years
  • Free from missed payments on any personal credit obligations in the last 6 years
  • A UK resident with a business address in the UK

Your organisation must be either:

  • A sole trader or a partnership
  • A limited liability partnership, or
  • A limited company
  • If your organisation is a limited company you must adhere to the following criteria: the directors have never been disqualified, the business has never been subject to insolvency or an intention to dissolve, the business has not had a negative net worth in the last set of financial accounts.
