Additional cardholder

This is someone you share your credit card with. Both of you have a card and you share the credit limit.

However, unlike with joint current accounts where both account holders are liable, the main credit cardholder is solely responsible for the debt. So as the main cardholder, you will be responsible for any spending made by additional cardholders. You'll need the permission of the additional cardholder to share their information before completing the application.

Here are some things that you need to know:

  • Both cardholders share the same credit limit
  • Your statement will detail purchases made by all cards on your account
  • An additional card on the same account is free
  • You can apply by post.

Additional cardholder eligibility criteria:

  • 18 years of age
  • UK resident

How do I add an additional cardholder?

You can apply to add an additional cardholder by following these steps:

  1. Print off an additional cardholder application form.
  2. Check that the additional cardholder meets our eligibility criteria. This is listed above.
  3. Enter the additional cardholder's details.
  4. Sign and return the application to: The Co-operative Bank, P.O. Box 222, Unit 550, Metroplex Business Park, Broadway, Salford Quays, Manchester M50 2UE.

Once received, we’ll process your additional cardholder application and send you a letter to let you know if the application has been accepted. If accepted, the additional cardholder will receive their card within 3-5 working days.
