Google Pay is simpler, safer, and you can use it anywhere contactless is accepted.
Google Pay is like having a wallet on your smartphone. Once you download the app, you can virtually store your debit or credit card on there and make purchases either in participating apps or at any retailer that you see the contactless or Google Pay symbol.
Most of our Co-operative Bank debit and credit cards are eligible, except for ATM cards and business credit/debit cards. To use Google Pay, cardholders will need a NFC capable Android™ device running Android 5.0. (Lollipop®) or higher.
Google Pay doesn't send your actual credit or debit card number with your payment. Instead it uses a virtual account number that differs from the details on your card, meaning your card details stay safe.
Before you download Google Pay, please read the Google Pay Terms of use below:

Download Google Pay Terms of use PDF (94kb)Firstly you will need to check that the contact details we hold for you are up to date. This is because we send you a verification code to the mobile number or email address that we have registered for you to verify it is you adding the card to your device.
You can check your contact details and update if required in online or mobile banking. Please be aware that if you need to update your details, you will have to wait up to five days to add your card to Google Pay. This is in place to protect you from fraud. If you wish to add your card before then, you will need to call us to update your contact details so that we can verify it's you before your card is added.
You can make a Google Pay payment whenever you see a contactless or Google Pay logo. For payments under £45 you just need to wake up your device and tap on the contactless terminal. For payments over £45, you'll need your device passcode, fingerprint or pattern to authenticate. Some merchants may set a maximum spend for Google Pay.
Google Pay payments can also be made in app whenever you see the 'Buy with Google Pay' button.
If your card is lost or stolen call us immediately on +44(0)345 600 6000 (call charges) and we will cancel the card, order you a replacement card and automatically update your card in the Wallet the next working day. Lines are available 24/7.
You can use your Android Device Manager to remotely erase all of the data in the device, including your card(s).
