Help and support for someone experiencing economic abuse

Our latest study with Refuge found that economic abuse affects more people in the UK than you might think. If you have experienced economic abuse, or if you are unsure but want to find out more, we want you to know we are here for you. We can help by providing a range of support, as well as access to resources and help spotting the signs of economic abuse.

If you’re in any immediate danger, always call 999.

If you’re experiencing (or think you might be experiencing) any form of domestic abuse, including economic abuse, and want to find out more, you can call Refuge’s National Domestic Abuse Helpline, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for free on 0808 2000 247.

The helpline is run solely by Refuge and provides emotional and practical support. This can include explaining who else you should contact and referring you to specialist domestic abuse services, such as local outreach services and refuges.

What is economic abuse?

Economic abuse is a form of domestic abuse. It occurs when an abuser restricts a person’s ability to acquire, use and maintain money or other economic resources.
