I’m under 18, what identification documents can I provide to open an account?

If you’re under 18, we understand that it might not be possible to provide the usual documents to confirm who you are or where you live. So, we also accept the following:

To confirm who you are:

  • Birth certificate / Adoption certificate (under 18s only)
  • NHS medical card / letter (under 18s only)
  • HMRC letter / Job Centre letter confirming issue of National Insurance number (UK Citizens under 18s only)
  • Current child benefit letter (under 18s only, dated within the last 12 months)
  • Professional reference from a person in position of responsibility (under 18s only, must be dated within the last 3 months)

To confirm where you live:

  • NHS medical card / letter (under 18s only)
  • HMRC / Job Centre letter confirming issue of National Insurance number (UK Citizens under 18s only)
  • Current child benefit letter (under 18s only)
  • Professional reference from a person in a position of responsibility (under 18s only and dated within the last 3 months)

Please note we cannot accept the same document to confirm both your identity and your address. They will need to be two separate documents.

We will need additional documents if you are looking to open a student account.
