What do I need?

To apply, you’ll need to:

  • Have one more full year of study

    You must be in your penultimate year of undergraduate study or below. You must be projected to get at least a 2:1 degree, in any discipline.

  • Have five GCSEs (or equivalent)

    You must have at least five GCSEs (or equivalent), including Maths and English at grade C or above (or level 4 or above).

What is a summer internship?

On our summer internship programmes, you’ll spend eight weeks working in a stretching and stimulating role, pushing you to perform at your best, while supported by our development programme. You’ll gain a real insight into what it’s like to work in our business and have the opportunity to learn from our people, while working on real business challenges.

We hope that by taking part in the programme, you’ll leave university with a sense of independence and confidence. Plus, if successful on the programme, you’ll have the opportunity to be considered for our future graduate programmes.

Programmes available

What will I be doing?

You’ll work on a number of placements throughout the programme, each designed to develop your:

  • Commercial and strategic thinking
  • Negotiation, influencing and leadership skills
  • Understanding of how our bank works
  • Knowledge and experience.

We’ll ask you for your areas of interest and take these into consideration, along with our business needs, when deciding which placements you’ll work on.

How will I be supported?

There’s much more to our internship programmes than on-the-job experience.

We’ll give you all the tools we can to help drive your career and develop your confidence. You’ll have access to all the support you need, including guidance on how you can shape your own development.

Your graduate buddy will support you in building your professional network.

Your business sponsor will review and appraise your performance, providing feedback and coaching at every step of the way, to ensure your success and personal growth.

Which programme is right for me?

Finance internship programme

What does the Finance team do?

We support every aspect of our bank. And we’re moving fast to make the most of our enormous potential and shape the ethical bank of the future.

What will I do during this programme?

You’ll get first-hand experience, which could include working on:

  • Producing weekly summaries of economic trends and data releases for the bank’s trading committee
  • Profit and loss statements, balance sheets and capital metrics for month-end reporting
  • Modelling of the bank’s economics assumptions used for planning purposes
  • Shadowing on financial planning processes and forecast discussions
  • Supporting preparation and verification of half-year investor presentation, including supporting materials for the CEO/CFO.

Product internship programme

What does the Product team do?

We design, manage and promote the products our customers need, and build lifelong connections across a range of marketing channels.

What will I do during this programme?

You’ll learn about how we design our products, taking into consideration our customer needs and the commercial needs of the business.

You’ll get first-hand experience, which could include working on:

  • Shadowing and supporting our product managers to explore how the bank designs and develops its products
  • Supporting our pricing teams with product changes that will increase their appeal and drive income
  • Engaging with wider business teams to support the development of product processes and journeys to make it easier and simpler for customers to interact with the bank.
