Make payments online

You can make payments to both new and existing payees through online banking.

To make a payment to an existing payee through Business Online Banking:

  1. Log in to Business Online Banking
  2. Under 'Shortcuts' select 'Make a UK payment'
  3. Select 'Pay someone else' if it is not already auto-selected
  4. Select 'UK' as the type of payment if it is not already auto-selected
  5. Select 'Continue'
  6. Select the account you want to pay from
  7. Select which payee to pay from the 'Payee name' drop-down menu
  8. Enter the amount you want to pay
  9. Enter a reference (description) if you want to, e.g. Cake delivery
  10. Select 'Continue'
  11. Check the details and use the HID Approve mobile security app or your physical plastic security token to approve the payment.

Please note: A Confirmation of Payee check will not have been completed for existing payees, which you set up in Business Online Banking before these checks were introduced.

To set up and make a payment to a new payee through Business Online Banking:

  1. Under 'Shortcuts' select 'Save and pay a new payee'
  2. On the 'Add new payee' screen, enter the required details:
    • Account type (personal or business)
    • Payee name or business name
    • Nickname
    • Bank country
    • Sort code
    • Account number
    • Address details
    • Other details
    • Who can use this payee (if applicable)
  3. Tap 'Continue'
  4. The Confirmation of Payee check will be carried out automatically for the new payee (see below for more information on the Confirmation of Payee check)

If the Confirmation of Payee check flags something that needs your attention, read through the information on the screen and choose whether you'd like to continue with the payment, cancel it or edit details.

If the Confirmation of Payee check is successful, you’ll be taken to the 'Confirm Payee details' screen.

  1. If you need to make any changes, select 'Change details' to go back to the 'Add new payee' screen, make any changes needed, and tap 'Continue' to return to the 'Confirm Payee details' screen
  2. If you’re happy with the details, select 'Confirm Payee' to save the payee and go to the 'Make a UK payment' screen
  3. On the 'Make a UK payment' screen, enter the required details:
    • Account the payment is being made from
    • Payee name
    • Amount
    • Reference
  4. Tap 'Continue'
  5. On the 'Scam warning' screen, select the relevant reason for the payment
  6. Read through the information on the screen and choose whether you'd like to continue with the payment by selecting the tick box and tapping 'Continue with payment', or select 'Cancel payment' to cancel it
  7. On the 'Review details' screen, check the payment details and verify your identity using the HID Approve mobile security app or your physical plastic security token
  8. Tap 'Confirm Payment' to complete the payment.

Please note: For security and fraud protection, there may be a short delay before you can pay a newly created payee. A message will be displayed to let you know if this is the case once you select 'Confirm Payee'.

Please note: The Confirmation of Payee check helps to make sure your payments are sent to the right person or business.
