Haringey Shed Theatre Project

Haringey Shed is an inclusive theatre and performing arts company for children and young people that gives every young person a part to play and where everyone is valued and respected. Jim Shepley, Executive Director of this very special performing arts group, tells us about the difference the donation from The Co-operative Bank's Customer Donation Fund has made.

"The dance and drama sessions we offer provide a unique opportunity for young people of all abilities to interact and socialise with their peers. Many young people with disabilities don't get many chances to engage with their non-disabled counterparts, so it's great that we can bring everyone together in a creative environment that's good for their physical and mental wellbeing. Our disabled members in particular benefit from being able to develop their mobility, communication and social skills through music, dance and drama."

"We currently have around 300 members, made up of young people from as young as seven with and without disabilities. We also reach another 1000 plus children and young people each year through our outreach work. Our regular performances showcase the students work and are great entertainment for everyone who watches them."

"The donation from Co-operative Bank's Customer Donation Fund will support our after school theatre sessions. In particular, it will help to fund a driver and chaperone to transport up to eight young people with disabilities or other special needs to their weekly sessions. This is a really important service as many parents and families find it difficult to get their children to and from extra-curricular activities. It also gives our young people an extra bit of independence at a time when other young people who don't have disabilities are being given more freedom."

"We are ever more reliant on support from organisations such as The Co-operative Bank. This donation is a great boost to our fundraising. Thank you!"
