Celebrating National Inclusion Week

23 September 2019

We have always had a passion for inclusivity, and our co-operative values drive us to make society better for everyone – a vision we share with our customers and colleagues.

We’ve been working hard to contribute to a community where everyone feels valued, guided by our four colleague inclusion networks; Proud Together, Elevate, REACH and Access. Find out more about their achievements so far this year below.

Proud Together

Our LGBT+ network aims to create an environment of equality, support and fairness for all LGBT+ colleagues, and to promote these values outside of The Bank. This fully inclusive group has represented The Bank at Manchester Pride for the last five years, and has driven a number of internal activities such as LGBT History Month, Trans Day of Visibility and IDAHOBiT awareness (International Day Against Homophobia, BiPhobia and Transphobia).

Elevate is our women’s career network, committed to inspiring, connecting and developing members to reach their career aspirations and potential. Elevate runs regular workshops and events in support of The Bank’s career confidence programme, aimed at women but open to all. They also run LinkedIn masterclasses to help colleagues network and build their profile, and regularly host talks from senior leaders and external speakers to discuss their career journeys.

REACH is a colleague-led network created to celebrate our Race, Ethnicity and Cultural Heritage, all the things that make us proud to be different. This network is open to all colleagues across The Bank, and aims to further develop and celebrate our diverse workplace, including hosting a recent ‘canteen takeover’ for Eid to celebrate world cuisine and raise money for Centrepoint.

The Access network supports colleagues with disabilities, long-term health conditions, mental health conditions and caring responsibilities. So far this year they’ve worked on generating greater awareness, improving knowledge and fostering wellbeing in the workplace. They’ve also hosted talks from external speakers and wellbeing events, including a drop in session for colleagues to spend time with guide dogs for a charity donation.

Our workplace culture reflects our co-operative values and ethics. All year round, we’re driven by our ongoing commitment to inclusion and diversity, to create a community where everyone is respected, accepted and celebrated.
