Donation Fund Winners

Here's how the Donation Fund has helped some Community Directplus account holders with their projects.

A trumpeting success

Macclesfield Youth Brass Band

Macclesfield Youth Brass Band gives young people a fantastic opportunity to learn to play brass band instruments and perform at events within the local community. Approximately 70 young people have benefited from new instruments and equipment purchased with the donation from the Community Directplus Customer Donation Fund.

Spread the word

Liverpool reads is a city-wide initiative looking to encourage reading within the most diverse communities in Liverpool. 13,000 copies of “Keeper” and “Tamar” by author Mal Peet were purchased and distributed with the help of the Donation Fund to various schools, clinics, cafes and other places where people expressed an interest in reading.

Greener gardening

Loddiswell Allotment Association

Loddiswell Allotment Association provides allotments for local residents to grow their own vegetables or flowers. The Donation Fund has helped to provide a mains water supply which as recommended by the Allotment Association has a “push top” tap to discourage the use of hose pipes and help to regulate the amount of water usually wasted.

A fitter community

Sussex Multiple Sclerosis Treatment Centre

The Sussex Multiple Sclerosis Treatment Centre is run on a self-help basis, by people with MS, their families and carers. Members can take advantage of a range of therapies at the centre or just pop in for a chat and refreshments. The Donation fund was put towards new gym equipment to help clients work on their mobility, balance and strength.

Organic growth

Special Branch Tree Nursery grow organic trees and hedging plants native to East Sussex to help keep their community green. The nursery is run entirely by volunteers, where training and education in organic horticulture is provided. The donation helped to buy new recycled plastic planks to raise the tree and hedge beds for a more successful cultivation.
