Article 19
Article 19 campaigns against laws and practices where censorship denies people access to information essential to their life.
To help communities emerge from conflict, war, genocide or repression, Article 19 provides expertise for civil society and government to protect individual rights. Article 19 also campaigns for media diversity and independence, and for all voices to be heard.
With the bank’s donation, Article 19 will be able to strengthen its work as a force for change in sub-Saharan Africa, especially in poorer communities. This includes lobbying for freedom of information, and media diversity and plurality, particularly on the radio, which is the most influential mass medium in Africa.
