Using someone elses computer
Public computers such as Internet cafe's or librarys often hold spyware that captures private information. Any public computer is therefore a potential risk, so we advise you to avoid using these facilities for online banking, financial transactions or any shopping that may reveal valuable passwords or credit card numbers
You should also take care when using any other computer that isn't owned by you. If you're using a friend's or family member's computer make sure it has the necessary antivirus and firewall protection switched on, and its upto date. It's also worth checking that a recent scan of the computer has been done and any malicious files were removed or repaired. If a scan hasn't been done recently, run a thorough scan before accessing your account online.
How can I protect myself?
- Never leave the computer unattended
- Be careful who is watching over your shoulder
- Choose a reputable internet cafe that erases the disk you were using and reinstalls the operating system for every new user.
- Refrain from sending emails with any sensitive or confidential content.
