The Burma Campaign UK is part of a global movement campaigning for human rights and democracy in Burma.
Burma is ruled by one of the most brutal dictatorships in the world, and last year saw the biggest demonstrations in Burma since the 1988 uprising.
There is another untold story in the jungles of Eastern Burma, where more than 3,000 villages have been destroyed, and countless civilians killed through ethnic cleansing. With the bank’s donation BCUK will work with ethnic groups on the Thai Burma border, directly affected by Burma’s brutal military regime, on a worldwide campaign to lobby the UN for an arms embargo, and raise awareness of the situation with new audiences.
