Bulk BACS/CHAPS

When you want to ensure that a supplier or employee is paid promptly or would like funds to be credited to your business account(s), one of the most efficient and cost-effective methods of payment and collection is via an electronic payment system. At the Co-operative Bank we offer Bulk BACS (Bankers Automated Clearing Services), Faster Payments and CHAPS (Clearing House Automated Payment System) to enable the direct transfer of money between bank accounts.

Using Bulk BACS

Bulk BACS provides you with an automated payment and collection facility. You can use it to facilitate regular payments including Direct Debits, subscriptions, salaries, supplier payments and loan repayments.

  • If you issue more than 500 payments per month, you can take advantage of the next generation of automated payments technology – BACSTEL IP. Our service, bsecure uses Internet technology to provide a secure way to make payments.

  • If you issue between 100 and 500 payments a month, the stand alone Bulk BACS package is available as part of our Financial Director service.
  • For up to 100 payments a month, we offer the Business Payments Service. To start using it, you need to register the creditor’s account details with us using a Bill Payment Mandate. Then simply call us whenever you want to make a payment.

Using CHAPS

If you need to make or receive an urgent payment, the electronic, bank-to-bank payment system – CHAPS – is easy and fast. As long as funds are deposited by 3pm, the beneficiary can draw them on the same day.

Using an electronic payment service can make it easier to keep track of your expenditure and help to improve your cash flow. It also reduces the time spent on administration, freeing up employees to concentrate on core tasks.
