You vote: we'll donate!

Thank you to the thousands of customers who took part in our vote to determine how much The Co‑operative Bank will donate to our five human rights charities and organisations, as part of our Defending Human Rights campaign.

The results will be announced in September. In the meantime, you can read more about the work these organisations will undertake with our donation:

	Anti-Slavery International With an estimated 12 million people in forced labour around the world, Anti-Slavery International works at a local, national and international level to raise awareness and to eliminate the system of slavery.
	Article 19 Article 19, a human rights pioneer, defends and promotes freedom of expression and freedom of information all over the world, and campaigns against and practices that silence and censor citizens.
	The Burma Campaign UK The Burma Campaign UK is part of a global movement campaigning for human rights and democracy in Burma, ruled by one of the most brutal dictatorships in the world.
	Free Tibet Campaign Established in 1987, Free Tibet Campaign campaigns for an end to the Chinese occupation of Tibet and for the human rights of Tibetans to be respected.
	Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture Since it began in 1985, the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture has cared for thousands of torture survivors from more than 100 countries who have sought refuge in the United Kingdom.

About the vote

The bank's donations will be based on The Co-operative Bank credit and debit card turnover from 1st October 2008 to 31st December 2008. The total donation will be divided between the five organisations according to the percentage of votes each receives.

Voting took place from 1st June to 31st July 2008.

About the shortlist

Earlier this year, we invited customers to nominate charities or campaign groups who work to address human rights issues. Thanks to everyone who sent letters, telephoned or emailed with nominations. The five short-listed charities and organisations were based on your suggestions.
