Employee involvement

Charity Booster

Our staff are involved in many charitable and community projects. To support the many and varied fundraising activities, we offer a funding scheme where staff can apply to the Bank to financially support their fundraising achievements.

Many staff have already taken advantage of this scheme to raise money for their local communities with a number of charities benefiting from fundraising activities which have ranged from walking on burning embers to skydiving, marathons and sponsored walks.

Employee Volunteering

The Co-operative Bank is committed to working in partnership with local communities. It aims to contribute to the development and improvement of the community through working with charities, credit unions, voluntary and community organisations. The aim is to provide support through a range of channels including employee time and expertise, funding and campaigns support.

Employees participating in volunteering opportunities are supported with travel expenses and the Bank matches employee time commitment to volunteering. Many volunteering opportunities are available, offering a diverse range of experiences and developmental opportunities.

Greater Manchester Cares

The Bank is a member of Greater Manchester Cares, a Business in the Community initiative, which brings together businesses and communities by providing volunteering opportunities in the form of team challenges. This means that teams from different departments can work alongside community groups, learning about the work and aims of that group and, at the same time, completing a day-long project such as painting, gardening or providing IT advice.

Recent challenges have included 20 staff creating a rockery garden at St. Paul's school in Bury and 10 staff working on environmental issues at Boggart Hole Clough in Blackley.

The Co-operative Bank has turned away over £900 millions of loans to businesses not in keeping with its Ethical policy
