commentary
Awareness Two-thirds of suppliers (2000: 61%) are spontaneously able to name one aspect of the bank's ethical, ecological or partnership policies. Over three quarters of suppliers are aware of these policies when presented with a list. 70% of suppliers are aware of the bank's Ethical Policy, 58% of the Ecological Mission Statement and 48% of the Partnership Approach. Tender documents highlight the Ethical Policy and Ecological Mission Statement and request appropriate information from suppliers for screening purposes. Follow this link for further details of the ethical and ecological screening of suppliers.

Impact The bank's policies are more likely to have made an impact on continuous suppliers (40%) than on ad hoc suppliers (18%). The most frequently mentioned impacts are increased awareness of ethical and ecological issues, increased recycling and increased use of sustainable products and services. Three quarters of the bank's suppliers stated that the bank had not made an impact on the way they do business. This is not surprising given that, in the majority of instances, the bank constitutes a small proportion of each supplier's business. For 57% of suppliers, the bank's business represents less than 1% of their turnover.
