I am a credit card customer with additional card holders on my account. Can I/additional cardholders use this service?
Yes, VbV is applicable to all cardholders. Each cardholder will register a chosen passcode when prompted during checkout on participating websites.
Where can I shop with VbV?
Most online merchants now participate in the VbV scheme. Participating merchants will usually display the VbV logo.
Can I use Verified by Visa (VbV) from any computer?
Yes. There is no special software to install, so you can shop from any computer and still receive the added protection provided by VbV.
Can I make an online purchase with a retailer that does not participate in the VbV service?
Yes you can. Simply follow the traditional checkout process.
You can change your memorable name by calling 03457 212 212^. You may be asked to enter your memorable name in full the next time you shop online with a participating retailer.
If you use a passcode for the VbV service, it may be possible to change your passcode by selecting the ‘forgot your passcode’ option on the VbV display window during checkout. Please follow the online instructions displayed. If the message advises to contact us, please note that only the primary cardholder should call us.
I have forgot/locked my VbV passcode. What should I do?
If you are registered for the VbV service with a passcode you may be able to re-set your passcode by selecting the ‘forgot your passcode’ option within the online VbV display window.
If you have locked your VbV passcode or memorable name or it has not been possible to re-set a forgotten passcode online don’t worry, we can re-set this for you. Please contact us on 03457 212 212^.
Please note if you are a credit card holder only the primary credit cardholder should call us.
What happens if I acquire a new card with a different card number?
Most customers will automatically remain registered for the VbV service. Credit card customers with additional cardholders will be prompted to register a new passcode when making an online purchase with their new card.
I don’t want to use the VbV service, how can I deactivate my account(s)?
We request that all cardholders register for the VbV service when prompted, as this will help to protect your account(s) from online card fraud. If you do not want to register for the VbV service please contact us so we can discuss this with you further.
How does VbV provide protection?
Verified by Visa provides added protection against online card fraud. When you correctly enter the required characters of your passcode or memorable name you are confirming that you are the authorised cardholder. If the characters are not entered correctly we will not be able to confirm your identity and the transaction will not be authorised.
How will the online retailer know that my card is protected by VbV?
When you make an online purchase with a participating retailer your card number is automatically recognised for this service and you will be asked to register or confirm your memorable name or VbV passcode when you check out.
