When to tell us you're going abroad

Our cards offer a convenient and safer alternative to carrying cash while on holiday or spending time overseas.

You don't need to tell us if you're travelling to Europe or Turkey and want to use your cards.

You do need to tell us if you plan to use your card outside Europe or Turkey.

How to tell us you're going abroad

If you're registered for online banking you can send a secure message as follows:

  • Login to online banking
  • Select 'Help and support' from the main menu
  • Select 'Send a secure message, and view your existing messages' then 'Send a message'
  • Choose the account you want to send a message from
  • Select 'Using my card abroad' from the subject dropdown in the message you'll need to include the country or countries of travel, dates that you're travelling and the cards you intend to use.

We'll ask you to make sure your contact details are up to date in case we need to contact you when you're abroad.

If you're not registered for online banking please contact us.

Using the mobile app abroad

You can use the mobile app anywhere in the world, provided you have an internet connection. Check with your network provider for information about roaming charges.

If you don't have the app you can download this at any time.

Important information

When abroad we may need to contact you to confirm if a transaction is genuine.

Before travelling we would recommend checking with your network provider to ensure that you are able to receive/respond to text messages and calls whilst you’re overseas.

If this is something that you’re currently unable to do, then we would recommend setting this up with your network provider so that we can contact you when required.
