Free banking for community and voluntary organisations

Community Directplus gives charities, community groups, voluntary organisations and social enterprises an ethical way to bank for free.

We believe that when you're working for the community, your valuable funds shouldn’t be swallowed up by avoidable banking charges.

With Community Directplus, you and your organisation will:

  • Benefit from free banking
  • Receive interest on credit balances of £2,000 or more
  • Have the freedom to manage your account online, over the telephone, at the Post Office® or by post
  • Have the opportunity to apply for project funding from the Customer Donation Fund
  • Easily switch all your direct debits and standing orders over to us using our account switching service.

The Co-operative Bank reserves the right to review the account tariff for customers whose credit turnover exceeds £1m per annum, who deposit more than £100,000 cash per annum, or who deposit more than 5,000 cheques per annum.

Since 2003 we've donated over £547,000 to 642 organisations - you too could receive extra funding.

All Community Directplus account holders can apply for up to £1000 from the Customer Donation Fund to support special projects and fundraising activities.

About the fund

The fund grows in relation to the deposits made, for every £100 increase in collective deposits across Community Directplus accounts we add 20p to the fund and promise to distribute a minimum of £5,000 twice a year.

How it works

Donations range from £500 – £1000 and applications are judged twice a year in April and October. If successful, the money will be paid into your bank account shortly after.

As long as you're a Community Directplus account holder you simply fill out the application form or phone 08448 448 446^.
